SpaceX says it reached a binding commitment for an approximately $40 billion master finance lease covering GPUs and related equipment. The company calls it the largest committed GPU financing ever. The chips are Nvidia Vera Rubin hardware for a terrestrial compute buildout — terrestrial being the part where the rocket company spends forty billion dollars on computers that remain stubbornly on Earth.

Apollo is managing the financing vehicle. Goldman Sachs structured it, with funds connected to BlackRock, Goldman Sachs Asset Management and KKR making anchor commitments. The deal is still subject to closing conditions, with GPU deliveries expected in the first half of 2027.

SpaceX says the infrastructure will power Grok and cloud services. So the company is now a rocket manufacturer, an internet provider, an AI lab and a landlord for machines that require their own power grid. Vertical integration has become a cry for help.

Musk used to pitch Mars because Earth was not ambitious enough. Now Earth apparently needs a $40 billion server rack before lunch.
